One day before Americans across the country celebrate Thanksgiving, 22 attorneys general sued the Trump administration over eligibility changes to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
Their complaint alleges the U.S. Department of Agriculture acted unlawfully when it issued guidance prohibiting refugees and asylees with permanent legal status from accessing food benefits.
“The Trump administration is still trying to find ways to deprive families that are barely scraping by of basic food assistance that the law affords them,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta said in a news conference Wednesday with Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison, Oregon Attorney General Dan Rayfield and Massachusetts Attorney General Andrea Campbell.
