FORT WORTH, Texas — After more than a week of empty streets and stalled traditions, the Fort Worth Herd returned to East Exchange Avenue on Friday, a sign of relief for those who care for the animals and the thousands who come to see them.

The twice-daily cattle drive through the Stockyards will resume operations on Nov. 28, according to its organizers, who emphasized that their equine veterinary team agreed with the decision "because of the precautions our team has taken and the safety protocols we have in place."

For trail boss Georgia Cartwright, it was the Christmas gift she’d been hoping for.

“If they’re not feeling good, I’m not feeling good… they’re like my kids,” she said as she stood by the horses.
