It’s easier to be thankful when you have something — or Someone — to thank, and believe that the world is on balance a better place than not, but it’s good to be grateful whether or not you have the metaphysical underpinnings for thanksgiving.
Because (I think) grateful people feel happier than ungrateful people and (I’m sure) make everyone else happier than ungrateful people do. The grateful see the world from a better angle or in a brighter light. They see the good things ungrateful people don’t see.
The ungrateful see the world as if it were a great big Costco warehouse with only a few items on the shelves and most of those items, things they don’t want. Grateful people see the world as a warehouse filled with things, most of which would be a great present to get.
