Two officers from Six Nations Police have received the province’s highest honours for acts of bravery.
Const. Colin Burning and Const. Richard Smith were among 15 police officers and nine firefighters that were presented the Ontario Medal for Police Bravery, and Ontario Medal for Firefighter Bravery.

On November 8, 2024, Burning and Smith were on patrol on Six Nations of the Grand River First Nation when they discovered a vehicle that had rolled over into a ditch. The car was on its side and on fire.
The officers could see an unconscious person in the driver’s seat and used an axe to break the windshield and reach the victim. As fire began appearing around the dashboard, the driver woke up and crawled to the back seat to escape the flames.
