Amazon is warning more than 300 million people of impersonation scams ahead of Black Friday.
Amazon said in an email sent on Nov. 24 that cybercriminals are targeting users by reaching out to try and acquire “sensitive information like personal or financial information, or Amazon account details,” according to Forbes .
Impersonation scams happen when a scammer pretends to be a trustworthy organization or person so that they can steal money or personal information, according to Amazon’s website . They can happen in a variety of ways, including phone, email, text or through social media messaging.
The email warned of the following attacks:
Fake messages that say there’s a delivery or account issue
Third-party advertisements offering amazing deals
Messages and unfamiliar links sent
