After two National Guard members were shot on Nov. 26 in Washington, DC, New Jersey officials reacted to the news on social media.

A suspect in the surprise attack near the White House was in custody, officials said.

The victims, both members of the West Virginia National Guard, were "ambushed" by a lone gunman outside a subway station in the heart of the nation's capital, said Jeffery Caroll, executive assistant chief of the Metropolitan Police Department. Mayor Muriel Bowser called it was a "targeted shooting."
