LANSING, Mich. (WILX) - High winds and snowfall hit the Lansing area Tuesday, as temperatures continue to drop,
Local organizations and utility companies are offering resources to help residents cover heating costs during the cold weather.
Becki Matika, a case manager at the Salvation Army, has been a social worker for 25 years. She said she sees power shutoffs happen frequently when the weather gets cold.
“It’s scary, it’s frustrating and it’s cold. And it’s like, what do I do now?” said Matiska.
Matiska said large, unexpected utility bills can be difficult for residents to manage when they need to turn the heat on more.
“They panic, they don’t know what to do, they cry. They cry, they get upset,” she said.
