A New Jersey company that makes bagged salads and other prepared vegetable products is facing over $1 million in federal fines following the death of an employee at a facility in Gloucester County.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced the $1,125,484 in proposed fines this week against Taylor Farms New Jersey Inc. following the May death of an employee who was cleaning and sanitizing a machine at a company facility on Heron Drive in Swedesboro, Logan Township.
The Labor department’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspectors found the company failed to implement proper “lockout/tagout” actions to protect workers during sanitation procedures and levied 16 safety violations against the company, the department said in a statement.
