BEAUMONT, Texas — Civil rights activists gathered at the Jefferson County Courthouse on Tuesday to support Nerbert Frelow after murder charges against him in the death of Donesha Buckner were dismissed because prosecutors said the evidence was not strong enough to move forward.
Frelow had been arrested in March for Buckner’s death, but the Jefferson County District Attorney’s Office determined the case could not proceed due to insufficient evidence.
He was joined at the courthouse by retired Texas Ranger Brandon Bess, who the family hired to assist with the investigation. Bess, who now works for a security firm in Houston, said he was able to quickly rule out Frelow as a suspect.
