A woman who died of suspected carbon monoxide poisoning at her home in Slidell last weekend was identified by the coroner on Wednesday as 65-year-old Kathleen Mitchell.

Fire District 1 said Mitchell was found unresponsive at the property, while her adult son — who was also exposed to the gas — was taken to hospital and is expected to recover.

Emergency crews said the carbon monoxide alarms on their medical bags activated as soon as they entered the home. Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities said a generator was located near their residence, and a fan inside was pulling the generator’s exhaust indoors, filling the home with carbon monoxide.
