COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) - A push is underway across Southern Colorado to keep the holiday season merry and bright by getting impaired drivers off the street and behind bars.
According to the Colorado Department of Transportation , 184 people have died on Colorado roads in 2025 due to impaired drivers.
Clara Shelton said it’s been almost exactly 10 years since the death of her brother. She said Sam, a freshman at CU Boulder, was riding in a car with three other people, when they were hit by an impaired driver.
She said Sam was airlifted to a hospital and spent 10 weeks in a coma before passing away.
“It’s a grief that never goes away,” Shelton said. “It gets a little bit easier with every passing year, I would say, but it’s going to be with us forever.”
