Eleven people have lost their lives and two others sustained injuries after a test train collided with a group of maintenance workers in southwest China. The tragic incident occurred at Luoyangzhen Station in Kunming, the capital of Yunnan Province, during the early hours of Thursday. The train, identified as No. 55537, was reportedly conducting checks on seismic equipment when it struck the workers as it entered a curved section of the railway line. In response to the accident, railway and local authorities promptly initiated emergency rescue operations. The injured individuals were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. Following the incident, normal services at the station have resumed. Kunming's railway authority expressed their condolences to the families of the victims through social media platforms. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation. China boasts the world’s largest rail network, which spans over 100,000 miles. This incident follows a similar tragedy in 2021, when nine workers were killed after a train struck them on the Lanzhou-Xinjiang railway in the northwestern province of Gansu.
