QUAD CITIES, Iowa/Ill. (KWQC) -
Long duration snow event Saturday and early Sunday
Travel impacts into Sunday
Bitter cold early next week
First Alert Days are in effect all of Saturday and the first half of Sunday as a winter storm unfolds over the area. If possible, start making alternate travel plans for the weekend.
A widespread 6 to 12 inches of snow is likely over the course of 24 hours. While that is a high amount the snow will gradually pile up giving crews time to keep up with the main roads at times.
The track of the system has trended colder so this will mainly be a snow event. It starts around 12 AM Saturday and wraps up by 6 AM Sunday but impacts will linger into the midday hours Sunday thanks to breezy northwest winds and tumbling temperatures.
