There's nothing quite like the combination of NFL games and Thanksgiving . It's a convenient way to tune out your annoying in-laws, if nothing else.
The professional football tradition began in 1920 with the American Professional Football Association — the league that featured the Akron Pros and the Canton Bulldogs. The Thanksgiving game that season was between the Chicago Tigers and Decatur Staleys.
The APFA became the National Football League in 1922 and five Thanksgiving games were played that year. Over time, the tradition became two games being played on Thanksgiving. In 2006 the NFL added a third Thanksgiving game — in primetime — to the schedule.
Do the Browns play on Thanksgiving?
