The executive director for the Akron-Summit County Public Library system recently announced she would retire at the end of this year.

Pamela Hickson-Stevenson, who joined the Akron library system in 2006 as the deputy executive director and who has worked more than 40 years in public libraries, stated in a news release from library officials that she appreciated the opportunity to work there. She assumed leadership of the system in 2018.

“This is the right time for the transition to a new executive director," Hickson-Stevenson said in the release. "There is much to be done with tackling the system’s capital needs and with preparing to be on the ballot in 2027 for the Library’s current operating levy.
