GRAND FORKS – Local churches have banded together to serve traditional Thanksgiving meals for those who are new to the community, financially struggling, or just want to get together and socialize with other people.
Zion United Methodist Church has been hosting the “Love Feast” on the last Tuesday of the month, except December, for 23 years – inviting everyone to come and enjoy a free meal and a time of fellowship. Members of Zion and another 10 churches prepare the meals – one church takes on the task each month.
There was a purpose behind the decision to offer the dinner on the last Tuesday of the month, said Cheryl Klamm, Love Feast leader at Zion. “We designated that time because a lot of times when people are strapped for money, it’s that last week that is difficult.”
