Welcomed a stranger
In August of 1965, this newly arrived foreign student stood in the long college registration line and heard Linda say: "I wish I had crackers and peanut butter." To which this newcomer asked: "What is peanut butter?"
"Hey, y'all, he doesn't know what peanut butter is," proclaimed the hungry co-ed. Three months later and right around Thanksgiving, I was given 13 jars of peanut butter for my birthday. And to this day I remember Jim Baker's inviting me to spend Thanksgiving with him and his family in Little Rock.
Bakers, even though we've lost touch over the last 50 years, thank you for your warm hospitality and for making my first Thanksgiving in the U.S. memorable. I was a stranger thousands of miles away from home, and you took me in. Happy Thanksgiving, Jim and the
