The likelihood that Vice President JD Vance will become the Republican Party's nominee for the 2028 presidential election is declining, according to polls.

According to polling by McLaughlin & Associates, Vance's net lead over President Donald Trump's son, Donald Trump Jr. —in a hypothetical contest between them and other Republican figures—has decreased in recent months.

Why It Matters

Because of the 22nd Amendment in the U.S. Constitution, which was added in 1951, presidents can only serve two terms in the White House. So, Trump will need to pass the baton to another GOP candidate in 2028.
