New Orleans mom Lizz Busquet used to be a huge big-box Black Friday shopper.
“Those people you see on the news getting up at 4 a.m. to get in line at Walmart and fight through the crowds the day after Thanksgiving — that was me,” she said.
But not anymore.
“I just don’t want to do it anymore,” she said. “It’s multiple things: For one, the sales just aren’t as good, but really, with how things are right now in the world, I think I’m just experiencing a renewed passion for shopping local. I want my money to stay in my community instead of going into some big corporation’s pocket.”
