Iwill share Thanksgiving with my extended family this year, and for that I am deeply grateful.

I’m also grateful for the “extended family” in my everyday professional life – the readers who believe in the work our journalists do and support it with a subscription.

One of them, Tom, wrote to me in October after I used this column to highlight some of the impactful investigative reporting our teams produced this fall. His message read, in part: “I am an inspired new subscriber today and am looking forward to more of your great work. Please keep it up. We need it now as much as ever.”

His words were appreciated, but what meant even more was his choice to subscribe. That commitment – modest in price but significant in impact – helps keep journalists on the ground across Michigan.
