The Doc Martin star will be returning to the BBC programme for its final episode

Martin Clunes, the star of Doc Martin, is set to guest-host the final episode of the current 70th series of Have I Got News For You!

The actor will make a triumphant return to the beloved BBC role, marking his 22nd appearance on the programme and his 17th as guest host.

Episode 10 of the 70th series will be available from 9pm on Friday, December 12, on BBC One and BBC iPlayer .

Comedian Phil Wang will also make an appearance as a guest panellist, marking his 15th time on the show.

Regular team captains Paul Merton and Ian Hislop will be rounding up the week's biggest talking points, offering their comedic political commentary as they go head-to-head, reports Wales Online .
