The Scottsdale Unified School District Governing Board members are expected to make the difficult decision whether or not to close Pima Elementary and Echo Canyon K-8 schools during it’s Nov. 9. meeting.
The meeting is scheduled to start at 6 p.m. in the governing board room at Coronado High School, 7501 E. Virginia Ave. in Scottsdale.
The board members did not respond to request for comment for this story, but board members Amy Carney and Carine Werner have suggested in past meetings that they do not support District Superintendent Dr. Scott Menzel’s recommendation to repurpose the two schools.
The district’s enrollment has dropped slightly more than 6,000 students in the last 15 years and Dr. Menzel is considering ways to make up an $8 million shortfall in next school year’s budget.
