After a long and successful NFL career with the Indianapolis Colts and St. Louis Rams, former Super Bowl champion running back Marshall Faulk began his coaching career earlier this year when he joined Deion Sanders' staff as the running backs coach for the Colorado Buffaloes.
Now, he's taking the next step in his coaching career, becoming a head coach at the FCS level and taking over at Southern University, according to The Athletic.
Per Bruce Feldman, the details are still being finalized, but Faulk is expected to return to New Orleans, where he grew up and went to high school before playing at San Diego State in college. Should the deal be finalized, Faulk would follow in the line of recent players in the NFL to take over at HBCU football programs. Others like Sanders, Eddie George, DeSean Jackson, and Michael Vick have done the same.
After a very successful college career, Faulk was drafted with the No. 2 overall pick in 1994 by the Indianapolis Colts, going on to win the NFL Rookie of the Year Award. After being traded to the Rams in 1999, Faulk continued to flourish, becoming part of the "Greatest Show on Turf," winning Super Bowl XXXIV and becoming the NFL MVP in 2000.
