The First Minister was challenged over the safety of maternity services in Forth Valley today following a “damning” unannounced inspection report that found mothers were waiting 62 hours to be induced.
Raising the issue at First Minister’s Questions, Alexander Stewart MSP said the findings at the maternity unit run by NHS Forth Valley were the latest in a string of critical reviews of maternity care across Scotland.
Inspectors reported that some women waited up to 62 hours for induction, prompting concerns about staffing levels, delays and patient safety.
Conservative MSP Mr Stewart asked what urgent action the Scottish Government would take to ensure lessons were learned and safeguards strengthened.
