Waterfront Park has been identified by Kelowna city staff as the preferred site for a possible 1,600-seat performing arts centre, estimated to cost $260 million in 2030 dollars.
The location is adjacent to the main walkway into the park off Water Street, and next to the Delta Grand hotel. Several sites were considered but the others were dismissed for a variety of reasons.
Advantages of the Waterfront Park site, according to city staff, include its proximity to the water and potential for views of Okanagan Lake, and its compatibility with the existing Cultural District.
The 2026 city budget sets aside $1 million to continue developing the proposal.
