An Edinburgh mum-of-four who was told to 'get her affairs in order' after a devastating cancer diagnosis has been awarded an MBE. Lesley Stephen, 60, was at 'rock bottom' when doctors said she had incurable breast cancer which had spread to her liver, lungs and bones.
Clinicians told her she had a couple of years to live. Thrown into 'indescribable shock and grief', Lesley eventually spoke to a friend who was participating in a clinical trial.
She was convinced that she could do one too, and it might be a 'game-changer'. Lesley joined a trial at Glasgow Beatson Cancer Centre, which gave an incredible seven years of stable treatment .
