Sammy Blais is headed back to the team he originally planned to spend the 2025-26 season with.

The winger was claimed off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs by the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday.

The 29-year-old from Montmagny, Que., had previously been claimed off waivers by the Maple Leafs from the Canadiens on Oct. 6. He signed a one-year contract with Montreal at the opening of free agency on July 1.

Blais recorded one goal and three points in eight games with Toronto.

He spent the entirety of the 2024-25 season in the AHL, recording 40 points (14 goals and 26 assists) in 51 games with the Abbotsford Canucks, the Vancouver Canucks’ affiliate.
