The Canadiens announced Thursday afternoon they had claimed Blais off waivers from the Toronto Maple Leafs and he will report to their AHL farm team. The Canadiens signed Blais to a one-year, US$775,000 contract as a free agent on July 1, but after he was cut at the end of training camp the Maple Leafs claimed the 29-year-old Montmagny native on waivers on Oct. 6 before he could be sent down to Laval.
Blais played eight games with the Maple Leafs, posting 1-3-4 totals and a minus-2 rating.
