Chaos erupted at a college today as a fight broke out between pupils.

It emerged this evening that nine teenagers have been arrested over the scrap, which forced the school to go into "lockdown" for an hour. The incident is believed to have been triggered by a clash between two pupils at Stockport College on Thursday. One member of staff was seen rushing to the aid of a youth who was knocked to the ground, while the fighting continued around them.

Security guards in hi-vis jackets and other staff members struggled to intervene as more pupils jumped across barriers to join in. A pupil was heard repeatedly screaming "oh my god" as a group of boys traded kicks and punches, taking the chaos from inside the college out onto a concourse.
