The last two times Phillipsburg football lost to Easton on Thanksgiving Day were tight, taut games where one play could and did make a difference – last season’s 17-14 Red Rover win in overtime and 2021’s brutal 7-3 loss thanks to a very late fumble.

Given the extent of Easton’s dominance in Thursday’s 35-6 decision at Lafayette’s Fisher Stadium, it’s harder to point to one moment where the game shifted. It would have taken a lot of such moments to turn the game around.

But there was one spot, one instant, where, perhaps, Phillipsburg let a chance to make the game close, or closer, slipped away.
