PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) -- A woman was killed Thursday afternoon when she was struck by a speeding hit-and-run driver while crossing the street in Philadelphia, police said.
The crash happened just before 4 p.m. along the 3500 block of Market Street in University City.
Witnesses told investigators the driver was speeding east on Market Street and driving recklessly.
Police say the 41-year-old victim was walking north on 36th Street, crossing Market, when she was hit. She was later pronounced dead.
After striking the woman, the 31-year-old driver crashed into another vehicle at 33rd and Market streets, then fled on foot before being arrested, authorities said.
The victim, who was reportedly on her lunch break, has not been identified.
