Flights will begin taking off and landing Friday on the reopened west runway at the Calgary International Airport, after a two-year, $200-million rebuild.

A ceremonial ribbon-cutting took place Thursday morning.

Transport Canada partially funded the project , with $57.5 million through the Airport Critical Infrastructure Program. The remaining $142.5 million was funded by Calgary Airports.

Chris Miles, chief operating officer for the airport, said the reopening of the runway represents an investment in growth.
