DALLAS, Texas — Loop 12 in Oak Cliff has long been considered one of the deadliest roads in Dallas , with officials pointing to hundreds of crashes and numerous deaths along the corridor. Now, city and state leaders say meaningful changes are underway.

For Arthur Fleming, the work is personal. His aunt, Betty Fleming, was hit and killed while crossing the road near Great Trinity Forest Way in 2023 . He said the loss has stayed with his family.

“We were raised together. My grandma and grandpa raised me, so she was like my sister,” he said.

He believes that improvements to the roadway could help save lives.

“Being able to help other people through her death … it brings some solace to the family,” he said.
