The grieving father of one of the two National Guard soldiers shot in an ambush in Washington, D.C., said his daughter suffered a “mortal wound” in a senseless attack that has rocked the nation’s capital.
“It’s not going to be a recovery,” the dad of Army Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, told the New York Times Thursday as he held his girl’s hand in the hospital.
The other victim, Air Force Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, 24, also a member of the West Virginia National Guard, is listed in critical condition, with a man answering the phone at his home telling the Times, “prayers for my son.”
