It had been that long since Millville led it.
“We won the first game, then they won the next three,” Millville coach Humberto Ayala said.
In all the time since, the Thunderbolts had never led. They announced their intention to change that on the first play, in a 55-7 victory over Vineland on Wheaton Field at John Barbose Stadium.
It was an incomplete pass. So they announced it again.
“That was huge. I should have hit the first pass for a touchdown, the first play,” Millville junior quarterback Robert O’Connor said. “But we went right back to our senior and it means a lot, because we knew he was getting taken out after the first drive.”
