ANDERSON, Texas (KBTX) - The Anderson Baptist Church ’s Food Pantry has served more than 1,000 Brazos Valley residents facing food insecurity this month.
Initially, the program only distributed food on the first Thursday of each month. However, due to overwhelming demand, the pantry is now open six days per week.
Olivia Dengering, the food pantry’s coordinator, says the church noticed an increased risk of hunger during the government shutdown. At the time, future SNAP benefits were unclear.
“It gives people more time to get there,” she said about opening the pantry six days a week. “It just ensures that everybody has access to food.”
