Thanksgiving is all about giving, and one Massachusetts business owner is taking that to heart.

Sylvester English, owner of Kinfolks BBQ in Taunton, opened his doors for the first time ever on Thanksgiving to serve free meals to anyone in need, a decision inspired by recent uncertainty around SNAP benefits.

Earlier this month, thousands of families temporarily lost access to food assistance after federal changes to SNAP benefits. Although those benefits were later restored, English had already ordered enough food to feed 1,000 people.

"I depended on SNAP benefits when I was a child myself so, you know, it's something that I can relate to," English said.
