Brockville has approved a steep increase in development charges, albeit a lot less steep than initially proposed.
After hearing a revised report from consultants at its regular meeting on Tuesday, council backed a new schedule of development charges that more than doubles the charge for single detached dwellings.

The city must now go through a mandatory 20-day appeal period, which was expected to begin either Friday or Monday, before those charges take effect.
Development charges are fees the city charges developers to cover the extra costs that new developments impose on the city for infrastructure and services.
