Michigan State capped a turkey trip with a tournament title.
The No. 11 Spartans (7-0) held off No. 16 North Carolina (6-1) for a 74-58 win in the championship game of the Fort Myers Tip-Off on Thursday night.
In a high-level November matchup, Michigan State built a double-digit lead in the second half while extending its longest unbeaten streak to open a season in a decade. Jeremy Fears finished with a career-high 19 points to go with seven assists and five rebounds to lead the Spartans. Carson Cooper and Jaxon Kohler combined for 24 points and 17 rebounds while Cam Ward scored 11 off the bench.
Standout freshman Caleb Wilson led the Tar Heels with 18 points while Henri Veesaar scored 13.
