For 10 years now, dogs and cats at Mason County Animal Control enjoy a bit of the holiday season thanks to the efforts of the nonprofit group Mason County Mutts, who bring cheer to the animals with their Christmas stocking project, as well as a Thanksgiving and Christmas feast.
Teresa Swist, vice president and secretary of Mason County Mutts explained the ins and outs of their festive tradition.
“We purchase a stocking for every dog and cat at Animal Control. We purchase animal appropriate toys, blankets, treats etc., and we stuff the stockings and then hang them up animal control in the lobby. When an animal gets adopted, they take that stocking home with them,” she said.
She said that the stockings are for the animals when they get adopted out, even if it’s after the Christmas season.
