Those who attended the presentation “Michigan Lumberjack and the Old Growth Forests” on Nov. 20, hosted by the Mason County Historical Society, enjoyed a lively time chopping into tales, anecdotes and interesting facts of a bygone era.
With old local logging photos on display, as well as antique tools of the trade, presenter Jerry Berg from the Lumberjack and Logging Museum took everyone on a journey through unbroken miles of virgin forest and told of the time the lumberjacks came, ultimately clearing the way for the cities and towns Michiganders call home today.
“The logging industry in Michigan was important to the nation, which is super cool. Chicago was built on Michigan timber twice,” Berg said.
