WAGGAMAN, La. — A St. John the Baptist deputy was shot and killed on Thanksgiving night and his brother is facing a second-degree murder charge, authorities said.
At about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting in the 30 block of Marigold Lane in Waggaman and found the deputy, identified as Deputy Shaquille Guerin, wounded. Despite life-saving efforts, Guerin was pronounced dead at the scene.
His brother, Darius Guerin, 32, was arrested in connection with his death.
Investigators say Darius took off after the shooting. About an hour later, a deputy spotted his vehicle near Ames and Lapalco boulevards. He refused to pull over and led deputies on a chase to the 100 block of Jean Lafitte Boulevard in Lafitte. He ditched his vehicle and tried to fl
