Readers of The Oklahoman who responded to a call for opinions were divided on the question of whether a University of Oklahoma psychology student should have received a zero on the essay she wrote as a class assignment. But most agreed that her free speech rights had not been violated.
Samantha Fulnecky, a junior majoring in psychology, took the unusual course of complaining to the university president and the governor about her grade and then filed a formal grade appeal and discrimination complaint . She told The Oklahoman she had received the grade "for my beliefs and using freedom of speech, and especially for my religious beliefs."
