A motorist who hit and killed a couple as they walked a dog on an icy country lane has been jailed.

Scott Gunn, from Weavering in Maidstone, has been sent to prison for 16 years for causing death by dangerous driving after killing Tom and Sue Corkery in Thurnham Lane, Bearsted, on January 20 last year.

He was found guilty at Maidstone Crown Court yesterday, and today (November 28) Judge Oliver Saxby KC sentenced him to a lengthy spell behind bars after saying Gunn’s statement of remorse was “too little too late”.

In a powerful victim statement read to the court, the couple’s daughter Claire said she had “relived the day over” repeatedly and wished she had been able to protect her parents and “get them home safely”.
