GAINESVILLE, Ga. — There will be no Friday night lights in South Fulton County this evening as a legal dispute between Gainesville High School and the Georgia High School Association takes a timeout in court.
The Red Elephants' playoff game against Langston Hughes High has been postponed indefinitely as the GHSA appeals Wednesday's court decision that lifted suspensions for roughly 35 Gainesville players.
The GHSA had upheld those suspensions during its own appeals process on Tuesday. It said those players would not be eligible for the playoffs because they allegedly participated in a brawl during a game against Brunswick High last week.
"Just disappointment, saddened, honestly saddened for the GHSA. This is an awful look for them," said Adam Lindsey, Gainesville's athletic director. "S
