RALEIGH, N.C. — A 59-year-old Raleigh man faces a felony animal-cruelty charge after allegedly stabbing a 10-month-old German shepherd, according to WNCN.

Raleigh police arrested Herbert Lee Kearney on Thanksgiving Day, according to WNCN, which cited court records. A warrant states Kearney “unlawfully, willfully, and feloniously stabbed” the young dog during the incident.

A magistrate set Kearney’s bond at $15,000, which he posted early Friday morning, according to WNCN.

WNCN reports it has reached out to the Raleigh Police Department for information on what led to the stabbing and whether the dog survived.

This is a developing story.
