Soft drink fans can get an early taste of new, healthier sodas from Pepsi.
Pepsi Prebiotic Cola is due in stores in early 2026, PepsiCo announced back on July 21. But ahead of that, Pepsi Prebiotic Cola has become available in limited quantities online.
Eight-packs of both flavors – Original Cola and Cherry Vanilla – are available starting on Black Friday, Nov. 28, on Amazon, Walmart.com and Pepsi TikTok Shop and in select markets via Kroger.com, DashMart and Gopuff while supplies last. Those watching Amazon Prime Video's Black Friday Football game between the Chicago Bears and Philadelphia Eagles will be able to shop for the drinks from their TV screen.
"This breakthrough innovation upholds the iconic taste of Pepsi that people love, now with no artificial sweeteners, lower sugar and functional ingredients," said Gustavo Reyna, Pepsi's vice president of marketing, in a news release.
The new Pepsi prebiotic drink arrives several months after PepsiCo acquired prebiotic soda producer Poppi for $1.95 billion in March.
Poppi and other prebiotic drinks including Olipop, Culture Pops have gained acceptance from consumers looking for healthier drink options. Coca-Cola released its own Simply Pop prebiotic drinks in February.
What are the ingredients in Pepsi Prebiotic Colas?
One 12-ounce can of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola contains five grams of cane sugar, compared to 41 grams of total sugars in traditional Pepsi, according to the Pepsi website. A can has 30 calories, compared to 150 in a traditional can. Each can of Pepsi Prebiotic Cola also has three grams of prebiotic fiber. Where traditional Pepsi 41 grams of carbs, Pepsi Prebiotic Cola has 6 grams.
Here's the ingredient list for Pepsi Prebiotic Cola and traditional Pepsi:
- Pepsi Prebiotic Cola: Carbonated water, cane sugar, soluble corn fiber, caramel color, phosphoric acid, natural flavor, Stevia extract and caffeine.
- Traditional Pepsi: Carbonated water, high fructose corn syrup, caramel color, sugar, phosphoric acid, caffeine, citric acid and natural flavor.
What is prebiotic soda?
Poppi and Olipop kicked off the prebiotic soda category in 2018, touting plant-based fiber ingredients to boost the good bacteria in your gut. However, most prebiotic sodas contain 2 to 9 grams of prebiotic fiber per can, far short of the recommended daily fiber intake (25 to 38 grams), according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Poppi faced a class-action lawsuit filed last year after a consumer said she wouldn't have bought the drinks had she known they contained only 2 grams of prebiotic fiber. Poppi settled the $8.9 million lawsuit in September 2025.
Prebiotic sodas are certainly a healthier alternative to soda for people who are looking for a bubbly (and) sweet drink and don't want to completely give up their soda intake," Jessica Alfano, a clinical dietitian at New York's Huntington Hospital in New York, told USA TODAY after the suit's filing.
But, "it's definitely not a product that's going to cure gut health just from drinking one or two cans a day," she said.
