An Illinois dairy cooperative is recalling some gallons of fat-free milk because they may contain food-grade cleaning agents.
Prairie Farms, headquartered in Edwardsville, Ill., is recalling about 320 gallons of Prairie Farms Gallon Fat Free Milk produced at its Dubuque, Iowa, facility. The milk was distributed to Woodman’s Markets in Illinois and Wisconsin, according to the company's announcement on the U.S. Food and Drug Administration website.
The company said it learned Nov. 24 that some of its fat-free milk may contain food-grade cleaning agents, which may cause illness if consumed, according to the recall notice. After an investigation, Prairie Farms pulled some milk from stores and initiated a recall on Nov. 25. However, about 320 gallons were sold before the issue was discovered, the company said.
