ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Name, image and likeness plays a significant roll in college athletics.
Athletes can use it to make a brand for themselves, buy luxury items, or as Georgia Tech defensive lineman Jordan van den Berg is doing, investing in his future.
“Football is only a limited time. NFL stands for ‘not for long,’ so I wanted to use the money wisely. You never know, one injury, one play away from ending your whole career, so I just thought while I have some money might as well invest it wisely,” van den Berg said.
Jordan is doing just that having recently bought a local laundromat.
“He has always been quite conservative with his money,” Jordan’s mom Lisa Hendry.
