Most adults over the age of 65 still drive, but a sizeable majority say they avoid certain conditions.
53% say they avoid bad weather and 48% avoid driving at night. As those aging adults are scaling back, it’s a good idea to start planning ahead, especially as our driving abilities change over time. University of Michigan researcher Renee St. Louis says it’s important to think about these things.
“ So you kind of want to start these conversations early before a crisis happens,” St. Louis said. “S o when somebody is still safely driving, opening up those conversations before it becomes a really urgent issue.”
St. Louis says it can be a sensitive conversation, so planning ahead of time can make that transition a lot smooth
